What’s the Difference Between Romney and Obama?
-
I am still scratching my head trying to understand why any conservative would vote for Mitt Romney. But thus is the nature of politics. It’s not meant to be understood. We are to blindly accept the way things are and play along. Right?
What exactly is the difference between Romney and Obama? Forgive my ignorance, but this is what has led to my confusion. In one breath, John Doe Republican says we must get Obama out of office–as if that’s the end game. Next, he says we must elect Mitt Romney as the GOP Presidential candidate. So, I ask him, “Why Romney?” He replies, “He’s the only one who can beat Obama.”
First, why is it so important to get Obama out of office? What difference does it make if we end up electing a guy who is identical to him in almost every way?
This isn’t snark, I actually can’t really tell anymore. They both endorse deregulating to promote growth. They both endorse extending the Bush tax cuts. They both think deficit reduction is paramount. Obama re-appointed Ben Bernanke, a conservative Republican, to the Fed chairmanship. Does it seem like Romney would have made a different choice? Romney wants to repeal “Obamacare,” which is basically a nationalized version of “Romneycare.”
What’s the difference? I see lots of style difference–Obama “reads” like a Democrat while Romney “reads” more like the GOP. But that’s just packaging. Can anyone describe the substantive differences?
The similarities continue, ranging from bailouts to foreign policy to their top campaign contributors. Seriously. What’s the difference?
It seems to me, if I step inside the political realm for a moment and play by the rules, the worst thing conservatives could do is vote for Romney. First of all, you could end up with a President just as bad as the one we have now. If that happens, everyone gets unhappy with him, just as we did Bush and Obama, and we eventually blame him for all of our problems. Finally, we give the American voters reason to turn back to the Democrats next election. The cycle then starts all over again.
If Romney gets the nomination–which he probably will–it would seem wiser to not vote for him in November and let Obama win. When the 2016 election rolls around, conservatives can get a better Republican candidate and he’ll win in a landslide. Just imagine how infuriated the nation will be with Obama by then.
I know, I know. John Doe Republican says, “We will not survive four more years of Obama.” Like I said, what difference does it make if we get an Obama in Republicans’ clothing?
