Unity Through Insults

  • Am I the only one who finds irony in statements such as this one?

    Anti-liberal tweet

If our desire is for the country to become united, then perhaps we should make use of the Dale Carnegie principles of speaking to and about others–even if we disagree with them.

I agree that class warfare is divisive and unnecessary. However, I can think of much better ways to express my concern than accusing liberals of being classless and hateful.

Imagine two kids caught fighting on the playground. They are brought into the principle’s office and the principle punches both children with his fist. Once he does, he says to them, “Stop fighting, morons!” That’s pretty much what we see here.

Whether the real desire of the tweeter–and many more like him–is to actually unite with liberals or convert them really doesn’t matter. Neither will likely be accomplished by hurling insults. It will only put us further from the goal.
