The Bible is silent regarding specific references to the United States of America. However, all of Scripture is written for our benefit. Some of the following scriptures are very relevant to us as God’s children and citizens of the US:
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
This passage refers to the time that King Solomon dedicated the house (temple) of the Lord. After prayers and sacrifices were made, fire cam down and the glory of the Lord filled the house. The above promise was given to the nation of Israel. God indeed kept his end of the bargain. The nation of Israel was blessed when they sought the Lord and judgement came down when they chose otherwise. This same pattern has manifest itself over and over again. In Romans Chapter 1, the Apostle Paul write of God revealing himself to the Gentiles through creation. Did they seek his face? No, they did the opposite.
Romans 1:20-25 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Peter expanded on this truth in Acts 10 when he preached to the household of Cornelious.
Acts 10:34-35 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
God judged the various Gentile nations for their disobedience. He also blessed those that walked in obedience. I believe the same pattern holds true for the United States of America today. Our nation has enjoyed many blessings over the past 200 years. We have historically been a people that fear God. Sadly, this does not appear to be the case in modern times. We cannot (as a nation) continue to allow millions of unborn babes to be murdered every year, remove his commandments from out lives and continue to travel down the path of wicked living and expect God to wink at our sins. It did not work for the nation of Israel or the various Gentile nations referenced in Romans 1. Nor will it work for us! It will do us well to heed the words of the Psalmist:
Psalms 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
God has a people in every kindred, tongue, people and nation. Timely blessings are given to ANY people that honor him through gospel obedience. While there is not a direct reference to our nation, there are plenty of verses that apply to the U.S.
