From Nothing to a Professional Website

  • As a church pastor, I never took a vow of poverty. There is no biblical commandment requiring me to do so. I never signed any dotted line agreeing to cap my salary. Even so, I’m not interested in bankrupting the church or emptying the treasury into my own pockets. I also have no interest in allowing secular work to distract me from my more important role as pastor.

What is a guy like me to do? If the church gives all they can and I don’t feel that consuming my time and attention with another job would be profitable, how can I possibly earn a few extra dollars for me and my family?

    Passive income, that’s how.

What is passive income? Well, passive income can be generated when you build an online business that takes advantage of systems of automation that allow transactions, cash flow and growth to happen without requiring a real time presence. In other words, you make money without having to trade time for it. You invest your time upfront. You work hard now to continually reap the benefits later.

I’ve known a lot of bloggers and podcasters who started with dreams of creating a passive income stream with their blogs or podcasts alone. While that is possible, it’s also very difficult. I’ve never danced with those delusions. Sure, I’ve made anywhere from $10 to $200 a month from advertising revenue, sponsors, and general donations, but it required a lot of continual work through creating content and marketing that content. It has never made much money and it is certainly not as passive as I’d like it to be.

By the way, I’m not talking about being lazy or some kind of get-rich-quick scheme. I’m talking about creating a product that truly benefits people and provides compensation for the work that was put into it.

As for me, I’m currently working on a series of video tutorials which will take the average person with no web design experience from nothing to their very own fully functional, versatile and professional website.

As a former web designer, I still get lots of requests from people wanting me to build them a website. When I tell them I’m no longer in that line of work, they ask, “Can you at least teach me how to do it myself?” As much as I would love to help everyone, I just don’t have the time. That’s why I’m putting together these videos.

Regardless of what you intend for the use of your site, my videos will get your website where it needs to be. Using live screenshots, I will walk you through the process of registering your domain name, setting up a hosting account, installing the WordPress content management system, installing all of the recommended plugins, and choosing an appropriate theme and design for your site. I know that may sound complicated, but I assure you I will make it all very simple.

I’m telling you about this now because I want to give you an opportunity to save some money later if you’re at all interested in purchasing my tutorials. By signing up for the “VIP” list (see form in right sidebar), you’ll receive a special promo code when the time comes. The tutorials will not be expensive, by any means, but with the promo code you’ll knock up 50 percent off the full price.

Yes, I hope to create a passive revenue stream. But even more important to me, I’m excited to help all of the people who have previously asked for my help and I was unable to give it to them. That list includes a lot of other church pastors who have wanted to build a better looking website for their churches. Others have been folks wanting to create a blog or a podcast site on a budget. It doesn’t matter why they want a new website. They want one and I want to help them get it.
