Coffee and Cigarettes Makes You Smarter

  • Did you know that coffee and cigarettes actually makes you smarter? I’m serious.

Studies show that caffeine increases the speed at which we process sensory information. Therefore, we make faster decisions because we can see and act faster.

Nicotine has been shown to boost short-term working memory and executive function. While coffee makes us faster, nicotine makes us sharper. Put the two together and you’re virtually Superman.

    Or maybe not.

The problem with coffee and cigarettes is that their positive impacts on the brain are outweighed by their negative impacts on the body. Even if you achieve super brain status while the caffeine and nicotine is running through your system, you might as well be chewing on Kryptonite at the same.

Coming from an addict, I cannot in good conscience promote either coffee or cigarettes. (Is that ironic coming from the host of Coffee & Cigarettes?) I never quit coffee but I kicked my smoking habit last year. Do you want to know how I did it?

I tried patches, gum, cold turkey, and even a few “natural” remedies. None of it worked for me. So, I gave the electronic cigarette a try and I found myself successful.

An electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, is an electrical device that simulates the act of tobacco smoking by producing an inhaled mist bearing the physical sensation, appearance, and often the flavor and nicotine content of inhaled tobacco smoke; though without its odor, and intended to omit its health risks.

Listeners of my podcast know I recently began endorsing one e-cigarette company in particular–The Safe Cig.

SafeCig may not be for everyone, but if you are a smoker or you know a smoker, I would encourage you to check out their product. You get the satisfaction of “smoking” and the nicotine your body craves without the health risks. I might also mention that scaling back was a hundred times easier with the SafeCig than it was with actual cigarettes.
