Free Speech and Voting Rights: All We Need To Take Back America

david scott swastikaIt seems that the anger of the American people towards Obama and the Democrats is rising. People are frustrated because they are worried and no one in power seems to be listening. People have a right to be upset. The politicians consistently lie to us and insult our sincerity and intelligence. This should never be tolerated.

With that said, please keep your cool, folks. I know we are living in troubling times. I know most of the politicians in Washington aren’t worthy of our support. Even so, the proper course of action is to make our voices heard and eventually vote the weasels out of office. I smile at every report of town hall meetings I see where large numbers have gathered to show their opposition to Obama’s health care agenda. I love to see my fellow Americans equipped with the facts and talking circles around these politicians. Why do you think they are trying so desperately hard to vilify us? It’s working. Keep it up.

We should not give them legitimate ammunition to use against us. Pelosi was off her rocker when she accused the grassroots movement of carrying swastikas to these town hall meetings. We want her and others to accuse of such ridiculous things. Their words may persuade some people into believing we’re a bunch of crazies, but the majority of people are smarter than that. America can see their lies and desperation.

Here’s a story from the AP which explains the photo above:

WASHINGTON – A swastika was found Tuesday painted on a sign outside Rep. David Scott’s district office, an act the Georgia Democrat said reflects an increasingly hateful and racist debate over health care and should serve as a reminder for people to tone down their rhetoric.

Scott’s staff arrived at his Smyrna, Ga., office Tuesday morning to find the Nazi graffiti emblazoned on a sign bearing the lawmaker’s name. The vandalism occurred roughly a week after Scott was involved in a contentious argument over health care at a community meeting.

Friends, we do not need to do such senseless things. We can be angry. We can be upset. We can protest. We can ask the hard questions at town hall meetings. But we should never break the law or retaliate in such ways. We cannot allow ourselves to stoop to their level. We have the facts and we have principles. Vandalism is not necessary.

I do understand, however, the spray painted swastika could have very well been the work of an Obama-supporting liberal. No one knows who did it. I am not accusing anyone in particular, but it is legitimately possible for it to have been the work of a liberal. Many historians have come to believe that the Reichstag (German Parliament) was actually set on fire by the Nazis. Why?

According to Wikipedia:

During the election campaign, the Nazis alleged that Germany was on the verge of a Communist revolution and that the only way to stop the communists was to pass the Enabling Act. The message of the campaign was simple: increase the number of Nazi seats so that the Enabling Act could be passed. To decrease the number of opposition members of parliament who could vote against the Enabling Act, Hitler had planned to ban the Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands (the Communist Party of Germany or KPD), which at the time held 17% of the parliament’s seats, after the elections and before the new Reichstag convened. The Reichstag Fire allowed Hitler to accelerate the banning of the Communist Party. The Nazis capitalized on the fear that the Reichstag fire was supposed to serve as a signal launching the Communist revolution in Germany, and promoted this claim in their campaign.

The day after the fire, Hitler asked for and received from President Hindenburg the Reichstag Fire Decree, signed into law by Hindenburg using Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution. The Reichstag Fire Decree suspended most civil liberties in Germany and was used by the Nazis to ban publications not considered “friendly” to the Nazi cause. Despite the fact that Marinus van der Lubbe claimed to have acted alone in the Reichstag Fire, Hitler, after having obtained his emergency powers, announced that it was the start of a Communist plot to take over Germany. This sent the Germans into a panic and isolated the Communists further among the civilians; additionally, thousands of Communists were imprisoned in the days following the fire (including leaders of the Communist Party of Germany) on the charge that the Party was preparing to stage a putsch. With Communist electoral participation also suppressed (the Communists had previously polled 17% of the vote), the Nazis were able to increase their share of the vote in the March 5, 1933 Reichstag elections from 33% to 44%. This gave the Nazis and their allies, the German National People’s Party (who won 8% of the vote) a majority of 52% in the Reichstag.

In other words, a liberal may have painted the swastika just to make conservatives look bad which promotes their own cause. Regardless, I beg everyone to avoid such evil deeds. For now, we still live in a free republic. We have the tools of free speech and the right to vote. That is all we need to take back America.
