I was sent a typical email from Facebook tonight which was to let me know that I had a message from one of my friends. I opened the message in a browser like I would any other and read it. Here’s the message:

I thought the message was strange right off the bat because it’s from a friend which I rarely talk to. She’s just someone I went to high school with but is on my friends’ list on Facebook. Since this message was addressed to several people, I just assumed it was a mass forward of some kind. The title really plays to a person’s ego: i found a video with you. looks like you’re superstar.
I followed the link to a harmless Geocities page but was then immediately redirected to a “yeotube.com” address. I didn’t misspell it. Often spammers will use web addresses that look similar to well-known sites like YouTube or Ebay. (Check addresses carefully when getting email, etc.)
Just as I expected, a video player popped up but warned me that my flash player was not up-to-date so the video could not be played. As most video players will do, it gave me a link to download the update. I clicked it, saved it, and tried to install it. That’s when my anti-virus software started popping up windows all over the place. As it turns out, I was unknowingly trying to install three different “trojan horse” installers.
If you get this message on Facebook, do NOT let your curiosity get the best of you. Delete it immediately!

I got one of these messages, actually, that was titled “Your picture is all over such-and-such site” from a friend on there. I ignored it since I didn’t recognize the site name, and emailed my friend whose account it came from.

You are obviously wiser than I am. I didn’t think much of it. I just clicked.

I got it from 3 different friends yesterday. Unfortunatley I also unknowingly sent it out to all my friends. I have sent out warning messages to all my friends, but I’m not sure how to get rid of the Trojan Horse. I thought my anti-virus took care of it at the beginning when it first popped up. I ran a complete scan just to be safe and it came up clear. However when I turned on the computer this morning, my anti-virus identified a trojan horse again and now I can’t connect to the internet on that computer any more. I can’t find any suspisious programs running in task manager and am not really sure what to do now.

I had the same thing happen this morning. Be sure to delete the install file as well as anything saved in your Documents which was put there during the installation attempt.

Some of the known subject headings are: “Maan, yyou’re great!”, “Me and my best friend found video with you. oh, you’re so nice there.”, “Some0ne thinks your special and has a *Hot_Crush* on you. Find out who it could be*” or a youtube link that says ‘”i can see yooooooooo”.
