Political Writers Wanted For Contest

Did you miss me? I’ve been MIA from the blogosphere since Friday because of a couple of church meetings in Georgia, the long trip home, the 2-hour season premiere of Prison Break, some computer issues, buying a new computer, and setting up the new computer, but now it’s back to business as usual. It’s good to be back.

I am a little disappointed though. After reading through 144 emails, I only received three emails from people interested in writing something for the essay contest. I am excited to read these upcoming articles but all three of them are from the “same side”. The whole purpose of the contest was to see essays from both sides of the debates.

Come on, now. I have finally given the opportunity to some folks to have their voices heard (and even earn twenty bucks) here on my unfair and unbalanced website. Some of you leave comments which are even longer than I require the essays to be in this contest. Now is the time. You have until September 15th to submit your essays. Pick a subject a run with it.

Here are the subjects I particularly want at this point (since I have someone already writing the opposing essays to these):

  1. Why Socialism Is Better Than Capitalism
  2. Why Universal Health Care Is a Good Idea
  3. Why Higher Taxation On the Rich Is Good For the Economy

Now I know some of you folks who stop by my site regularly believe in these concepts. Why not write about them and present your case? If these subjects are not for you, choose another from the list found here. If you see one you like, send me a quick email and let me know. I’ll mark it as “Reserved” and we’ll all anticipate reading your essay.

  1. If only you would have started this contest before the semester began…

  2. I would participate, but I don’t have the time to write as much as I would like, or to dedicate the time and research it would deserve.

  3. Do you know anyone who could and would? Maybe Leslie? Do you know her personally?

  4. Jeremy,

It seems as though many of us who might be inclined to write are having trouble just keeping up with our own blogs (plus “real life,” of course). One thought, if you’re interested in contrasting the ideas might be to seek bloggers who have already presented alternative arguments on these topics (I’ll bet they’re out there), and then either provide links or ask them if you can reprint what they’ve already written. Just a thought–I was looking forward to reading the alternative views, even if I don’t have time to adequately research and write one for you.

  6. Itès hard to write about these three topics as they are false. Nice try, though !
