On My Way To Georgia Tonight

Leaving Elkhart, Indiana: 6:40pm

The car is packed and I’m ready to go. This two-week trip down south just might be what I needed. It’s sort of a break from my own reality. I’m not looking forward to the 810-mile drive by myself, but I do look forward to being there. I’ll spend a couple of nights with my brother-in-law’s folks, a few nights with my sister and brother-in-law, a few nights with Josh, a night with my aunt and uncle, and probably a night with my Grandma and Granddaddy. I imagine I’ll be ready to get home by the time the two weeks are up.

This post will serve as my journal for the trip down. At any given stop, I’ll be able to update it with my location and progress thanks to the magical power of Verizon Wireless Broadband Internet. Wish me luck.

Bathroom Break Just South of Indianapolis: 11pm

Man, it’s going to be a long night. I managed to get through the multiple traffic jams in Indianapolis only to spend 30 minutes waiting on my tiny dog (toy fox terrier) to do his business outside of a Pilot Travel Center. It’s back on the road I go.

Stopped For the Night Just North of Nashville: 3am

I am tired and bored. I talked with Danae on the phone for about an hour (which is a bit weird for me since she just dumped me), but other than that, I’ve been driving with no company or real entertainment at all. At night, the tiredness and boredom gets magnified. So, I stopped for the night at the Budget Host Inn. It’s no Hilton but it was cheap and it has a bed. Good night, ya’ll.

Leaving the Hotel: 12pm

After a not-so-great night’s sleep, I’m getting on the road again.

Arrived in Danville, Georgia: 7:30pm

I missed a couple of my stops today but I’m here now. I’m very glad to be out of the car.

When you said you were going to Georgia I was gonna make the comment to brush up on your Russian and keep your head down. I’ll just tell you to keep your head down.

    Good Morning, Little Brothe

Thinking of you and praying angels deliver you safely at your destination. I’m sure that’s a lonely road when you travel alone in the wee hours.

I lived in Michigan for many years with my family. Me and my four children made the trek from there to Georgia annually. The GREATEST trip. We all enjoyed it. There was only ONE time I tried to make the straight through trip (roughly 12 hours) and I wasn’t even seeing stop signs by the time I arrived at my Mother’s home. Never tried it again. Glad you found a bed.

    God speed.

I sympathize with you. The trip home to Alabama is an 11 hour, 750 some mile trip. Be careful!

Hopefully, you’re deep in to the “having fun” portion of your trip, and any thoughts of the long drive down have been erased from your memory. I hope you have a wonderful time with your family and extended family… and an even better time during the services that are planned for the weekend. And, don’t work too hard in between.

I wish you’d let me know how Shooter is doing! After all my SOUND ADVICE on his welfare, I assume something worked. At least it sounds like he is making the trip with you.

You must not have got my reply email. He was only sick that one day and then he was fine. He also made the trip fine. I think he likes car rides.
