Waning & Waxing Tides of Life…
Author: Dianne Parker | Filed under: UncategorizedAnnual “female” stuff found me EARLY Tuesday morning at my doctors’ office. I was forewarned that this day was his “OB” day…so, I’m sitting, observing, young women who are happily ensconced in a place where I spent about a decade in my younger years…Pregnant Land.
I feel I’m amongst “sisters”…I’ve just become the “older” sister who’s truly been there, done that, bought a few t-shirts.
It’s a treat to see such diverse stages and ages and attitudes this bright Tuesday morning.
Most are smiling, laughing, sharing weight gain woes, pediatrician possibilities, breast feeding? There are several Daddy-to-Be’s in tow and Daddy-to-Be is so innocently “green” and anxious for this baby…neither gender of the smiling parents-to-be have a CLUE what this parenting process will “call out” in them. Pregnancy, the development of this little soul is only a microscopic facet of the journey on which they’re embarking. How sweetly these couples exchange glances, holding hands as they await their summons to come back to their doctor exam room.
The posture is well remembered…those further along, sit with their hands resting on the crest of the bulge, their legs spread in a very unladylike manner, to accommodate that extra “growth” resting on their thighs. Some arms crossed above their heads to allow “breathing room” in their diaphragm.
The outside door opens, another young, expectant couple walk in and stand in line at the desk. He is in jeans, black t-shirt with some band name like lightning jags across his chest, hair pulled back into a ponytail, standing defensively by the “little woman” who is in a serious DEFIANT mode of her pregnancy…one hand on hip, chin punctuating the air above her head with each syllable declared in this statement: “This baby can NOT come FAST enough!”, she blurted to anyone and no one. She was obviously not happy about “letting out” her body to this new life. Oh, my little sister, this is the easy part!
In this setting, moreso than at any other station in life, the room itself is CHARGED with the essence of LIFE. New birth. New generation. New hope. Another chance to do this thing RIGHT. And, these young couples are ready! May God know and bless each family.

I love the way you write and tell stories.
Jeremy, the feeling is mutual.
I watch these people everytime I go to the OB, I’m always amazed at all the different reactions to being pregnant that people have.
