Remember back to when you were a kid. Your parents provided for you your food, clothing, and shelter. They saw to it you were always healthy and could visit a doctor if ever needed. They took care of you totally. In return, you were only to abide by their rules and do as they asked.
I can remember debating chores with my parents and hearing them say, “So long as you live under our roof you’ll follow our rules.” I imagine you heard the same. Eventually, you began to get anxious for freedom. You looked forward to the day when you were older enough to move out and be on your own.
That day finally came. You were free to earn your own living in any way you desired. You ate what you wanted and you did as you pleased. The chores were now your own to mandate. In a matter of speaking, your parents are now a voice of the past.
The system of government which our forefathers officially established on this day in 1776 has been a system of utter freedom for the American people. Unfortunately, many in this country have been convinced they cannot help themselves and must turn to the government. Yes, the government could supply you with all that you need, but at what cost? I tell you, fellow Americans, we cannot continue to empower a government to “help” us. We must help ourselves and know that for every aid the government provides another liberty is revoked.
On this July 4th, let us celebrate our freedom in case we no longer have it in the future.
