There was a time when man and nature lived peaceably with one another. Man’s creations on this earth were modest and did not intrude upon the livelihood of the nature around us. But then, man began to innovate. Small homes made of wood and clay would not suffice. Dirt paths through the grassy fields would not cut it. So we began to build and build. We built entire cities and paved roads to connect our concrete and steel empires.
We forced nature to move and adapt. Birds now rest from flight on our power lines. Deer risk their lives daily to cross our streets and highways. Dogs and cats can no longer roam free but are kept trapped in our warm, comfortable homes. Maybe that last one doesn’t sound so bad.
Because of our destruction on this planet, we worry about its future. So much so that we now put animals on the endangered species list before they’re even endangered. We create laws to protect nature. Our governments mandate regulations and raise taxes to protect the environment. We have to do all we can because nature cannot take care of itself.
Or maybe we’re wrong. Maybe we’ve become so arrogant in the world of science that we actually believe man is all-powerful and must act as a deity, protecting the defenseless plants and animals. The science community is unwilling to accept even the possibility of an Intelligent Designer because it would knock man down below the level of a god, so maybe this pride is carrying over to our view of the environment. There is no god and nature cannot survive without our help, so we must do what we can.
I have a theory. My theory suggests that nature can survive, always has, and always will. I wrote (Can Man Destroy the Planet?) that if anyone is going to destroy someone, nature will destroy us. Yes, some animals may die, but that is part of nature’s circle of life. Yes, some trees will be cut down, but others will grow. Yes, the global temperatures will rise, but then they will cool once again. Even when man has “destroyed” a plot of the earth by building a sidewalk, nature finds a way around it (or through it even).

Going green, global warming, carbon emissions, and all of our environmental concerns can be eliminated by simply taking a walk outside. Rather than buying into the hysteria of the global warming religion, just notice how the world outside has not changed. Nature is the same as it was when we were kids. Somehow, through all that man has done on this earth, nature still finds a way to survive. I believe it always will.

Well said. I want to hear Hank Williams Jr. come out with a song called “A Countryside can survive.”
I thought this website was going to be “personal” again, with funny little stories and obersvations about your life. Instead, its becoming very political again.
I don’t understand your fierce anti-global warming stance and mockery of it. Its fine if you don’t believe in it as there are several fact points that can easily be argued, but why do you rail against it so much? If someone believes in global warming and wants to do something in their own private life “for the earth”, why not let them and not try and talk them down? How does it bother you what they do and believe in?
Simple solution…. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.
I don’t mind recycling and whatnot, but global warming is a 100% hoax. There is nothing legitimate about it. The reason I “rail against it” is because if people don’t wake up and stop buying into the conspiracy, we will continue to pay $4 for a gallon of gas (or more) and eventually bills like the one currently being considered by the Senate will pass, causing the greatest tax increase in global history.
That’s why it bothers me that people believe it. If someone believed the earth was flat, I’d say, “That’s fine.” It doesn’t hurt me if they don’t travel too far from home. But politicians and paid study groups that peddle this nonsense only to justify the money they make is something I am utterly opposed to.
I know I’m being political again but I can’t help myself. I did post pictures of my dog and a family cook-out though. I’m just very passionate about some things so I guess in a way my political writing is personal.
Some of the global warming is legit, though I believe it’s blown way out of proportion. God instructed man to dress and keep the garden, likewise we still have the responsiblity to be good stewards of the world that we live in. No we can’t destroy it before the Lord comes back, but we can make it a pretty miserable place to be till then.
I agree with that. I don’t want to see trash on the ground or drink polluted water. But the idea that carbon is evil (and warming the earth to unbearable temperatures) is a bit much for me. When I was a kid, we were taught that carbon dioxide is a good thing. We breathe it out and the trees breathe it in. Did you hear about that recent study showing we have so many more trees than we used to? The sincere environmentalists are all scratching their heads with that one.
No, I haven’t heard about the CO2 stuff. That’s really funny to hear. I’m going to go and look for some stuff on it.
